Welcome

The Nation of Poet's (TNP)mission is to provide a strong platform where Somalis - at home and abroad, can share their work and celebrate the work of their peers; while building a strong network of like-minded individuals who will connect beyond the reach of TNP. This group aims to compile written and oral poetry by a Somali poets about any issue they deem relevant.



Founder:



Halima Ahmed is the founder of TNP. She received her Associates of Arts in International Studies from Montgomery College and a Bachelors of Arts in International Relations with a minor in Africana Studies from Mount Holyoke College in 2013. She came to the United States in 2006 prior to which she lived in India for 10 years and several years in Kenya after leaving Somalia due to the civil war.






Mentors

Abdi Latif Ega is the author of Guban and a long-time resident of Harlem, New York. He loves and plays jazz that he studied in the late eighties and early nineties. Abdi has had an abiding love affair for the history, literature, and research of the new world African. He is heavily influenced by writers of African decent from all corners of the world, and follows in their tradition of speaking truth to power. This is the first novel in a series of novels on the horn and specifically Somalia, from the medieval times to the present. Abdi is currently a Ph.D candidate and teaching fellow at Columbia University.
