Poet of the week: Hyder Noor

Would you please introduce yourself to the readers?

Hi , erm my name is Hyder. No really it is Hyder NOOR HYDER. Its an original Somali name, it means a lion's cub. My dad believes in conserving the Somali names heritage, we shouldn't all be arabized, I quote!!!

When did you first start writing poetry and was there any particular incidents in your life that inspired you to write?

I started reading poems when I was young. Wow I read a LOT! When kids my age were chasing skirts I was chasing me some books at the library. I got to admit what influenced me to write poetry was the author Robert Frost 'The hopeless romantic'. You will notice the tragedies in my poems sometimes all stem from his influx! Edgar allen Poe and Walt Whitman also influenced me. The first time I read 'The ballad of reading gaol' by Oscar Wilde I was sure that poems were a means for my unsocial behavior to change its course of history on paper. That poem has BLOOWN ME AWAY "Yet each man kills the thing he loves,/By each let this be heard,/Some do it with a bitter look,/Some with a flattering word,/The coward does it with a kiss,/The brave man with a swordHeavy words"

What does "being creative" mean to you?

I believe being creative means switching your phone off, going out of the house and really look at the world our Lord Allah has built and maintained. Observe the fresh air, the dazzling sun , our natural surrounding! Every sunday I had a tradition of sitting alone in Trafalgar Square with a good book and watching people pass me by, this helped me get creative. The problem with our society nowadays, is we don't appreciate THE FRIGGING WORLD!!

What do you try to communicate with your poetry?

I communicate with myself in my poetries , its like an autobiography, my facebook is my diary per se. I write for me and no one else. Critiquing is for the narrow minded people not getting the point that maybe some things were written for them to judge. My dark beautiful fantasies belong on paper and sometimes people can come and share them. I don't really care to be honest.

Who are some of your favorite poets?

My favourite poet Robert frost FULL STOP. He's the man!!!

What does writing poetry do for you?

Writing poetry makes me feel solely alone in the universe just my pen and I on a intergalactic stellar flight through space and time continuum writing fantastic words free flowing from my lips directly blown on paper

Anything else you would like to share?

I would like to tell my fellow somali poets, ask not what your adopted country can do for you, ask what your natural country can do for you. Or else just tick the other option on the ethnicity survey they give on aeroplanes nowadays like i do.

Ode to my papa

Its been 24 years
When my tears turned to fears
I was 2 he left me fatherless
Passed time with essays and tests
Never was athletic
I have been left to fend alone ever since i was fifteen
Washing cars as a teen
I could have turned into a fiend
Instead i turned into the path of academics
Smoking literature with indians
Already 26 now
Skirts , flirts all done for a laugh now
Feeling so bitter
Maybe i should have learnt to smoke that weed
God bless for that burning bush
That kush
If it wasnt for my bronchitis
No homies to tell me how tight it is
Evil is what you make it
And i know my feelings in a disarray
Cold lonely and afraid

My therapist
My unborn babies
These succubus ladies
Wheres that exit door
Are my words too hardcore
See my blood spraying on the floor
Mayday mayday
On my 22nd birthday
I thought i saw izrael that monday
Visionary dreams
Late night asthmatic heaves
Loss of sleep
Et tu hyder?
tu quoque mortem

I will forget about this on the morrow
These Pains guilt and sorrow

My 1st Encounter With The Disease Called *Love*

Now Life Is A Funny Entitity
I Once Had A Companion Named Anab,
She Promised Me A Lifetime Of Eternity,
We Were Both Young Freshies
Who Jumped Into The Love Fraternity,
Then Education Called And Beckoned
For My Admission,SouthEastAsia , India To Be Precise
So i Filed My Life And Visa Into Submission,
Now She Escorted Me To Heathrow Airport ,Crying.
We Held Hands And i Assured Her That I Will Return ,
Gave Her a 500 Rupee Note With Gandhi As A Souveneir As A Reminder To Never Stop Trying.
She Was My First Love Not To Sound Coy,She Resembled Hellen Of Troy.
Her Beauty Matched Her Personality,A Strong Somalian Nubian Princess With Loads Of Talent.
Now Lets Go Back 7 Months ,Excuse My Vocabulary, I Think This Line Just Hit A Dunth!
Ok See It Was A Blind Date,I Was Standing In A Tran Platform,Looking Around Scratching My Head Like I Had A Brainstorm.
Little Did I Know She Was Hiding,Time Biding,When She Observed Me From Head to Toe,And Considered Me Outstanding.
She Came Out And Said With The Voice Of Alien To My Ears Asalaamu Aleykum.
Fast Forward 7 Months And 15 Days.My Name Was Called Out To My Gate,She Shivers And Her Eyes Turn Maroon,She Says "Hyder Why You Leaving Me So Soon"?
I Answer Her Question With A Kiss,And Promise To Return To Her In An EyeBlink.
Funny How Physics And Distance,Ruins And Strains A Whole Experience.
And I Wasnt Even At A Distance Of Castor,10 Million WHy's...
And 100,000 Tear Tissue Supply ,Later...
I Mature But Yet I Think ABout Her
,And What Could Have Been,If I Stayed Behind To Be With My Oleander Queen,
The Impossible Dream Is An Untouchable Dream,Today Is The Beginning,Is Tomorrow The End?

my tears dry on their own

My Tears Dry On Their Own,
My Days Starts And Ends With A Frown,
I Am A Nomad Without A Home,
But I Am Strong Like The Ox,
I Keep Getting Up From These Painfull Knocks,
In A World Full Of Insensitivity,
I AM Quickly Losing My Positivity,

Breathing Is Hard,
Running Away Just Brings Me Back to Square One,
But Yet My Spirit Is Unscarred,
i Do Nothing Wrong To The World,
But i Sense Azrael Floating And Hovering Over Me,
Kiraman Katibin,
My Deeds Are Humble But Yet Hollow,
I Am A Leader And Yes Sometimes A Good Fellow,
I Cry,
I Tried,
My Tears Dry On Their Own

The Ennui Status Quo!!!

I Crave To Be Inspired
But The Lucifer Inside Of Me Is Raging Like Fire
I Wish To Have Cars,Women And Glamorous Attire
But Yet It Seems 2 me These Neccesaties Are Like ChildHood DayDreams
It Seems I Have Everything I Need
But Yet I Refuse 2 Redeem
Ah Alas Higher Seer..Why Havent Thee Given Me A Diffrent Life
Another Race,A Bright Future InCluding Perhaps A Loving Wife
I Am Typical And Gallivant
A GalliMaufry Of This And That

But Like Obama's Campaign
I feel Change IS Coming
And Less Challenges Ahead Minus The Champagne
I Hear The Silent Gale Of Judgement Day Humming And Drumming Hardly In My Ear
Love Has Not Been kind 2 Me
But Something I Now Fear
It Seems 2 Me Nowadays Every Girl Looks Like A Gorgon
These Women Are All Guile
I Ignore Them And Classify Them Into CaseFiles.
Happily,I Concede Without Them That My Heart Flows Like The Nile.

This Is My Exposition
I Call It The Sadism Status Quo
Many Will DisAgree , Compliment. But I Assure You
This Theory Is Complied
Its A Demist And Cold Fragile World
But I Hope My Country Folks WIll Take Note And Let Their INNER lOVE uNFURL
tHIS Status Quo Was Written In A Day Of Ennui
Good Bye My Dear Friends And We'll Hopefull See Other Soon Surely.
Hyder Noor.
