Poetry is a weapon that we use in both war and peace. When we want to tell somebody something, poetry is the best way to convince them. - Hadraawi

Poet of the week (POW): Idil Ahmed Mahamed
Would you please introduce yourself to the readers?
Well hello there folks, I'm Idil Ahmed Mahamed
I'm one of the few poets who shared their poem's in the beginning and helped out Halima
When did you first start writing poetry and was there any particular incidents in your life that inspired you to write?
It was recently that I found a report on my self when I was 7 years of age, and the teacher explained to my mother that I was an imaginative girl, and that I loved looking into ancient history, made me smile because I was always like this, I've had the love and passion for putting my experience, my imagination and what I've learnt onto paper.
then when I was about 11-12 years of age, I wanted to put my emotions somewhere, I was deeply sadden to certain unfortunate events during my life, and when my Uncle died it was just a huge stamp on my life and mother, and I tired to put my imagination onto paper and tried to put closure for myself and wrote it down that I got to say good bye properly.
Later when I felt I got a tad better with my poetry, I had a tutor who was quite strict and who wished the best for me and my sisters, I was depressed with life, I couldn't focus with high school, although I could do it, but I had no mentor no one in my life to warn me of the consequences of my future. I was pretty much not confident about myself when it came to education and what I wanted to be and to reveal my passion and dreams. He kept bugging me about reading more, until one day he set me up some homework with a title and
with that title I had to write a poem, when he eventually read it he was very surprised that I wrote it and that was my first compliment I ever got and that just push me even more into embracing poetry, I never had the chance to tell him that I wanted to be a poet/writer but I'm in this stage in my life wheres I believe I can be anything now and when I do achieve to be anything. I'll send him a gold watch well that's what he asked for me to give him if I made it big.
And last but not least my cousin Abdilahi Ahmed, who encouraged me and stroked my ego here and there who has his own page called KOW media so like the page, yes I am involving some advertisement, so check it out people.
What does "being creative" mean to you?
I think its cool, a beautiful gift to have. I may not be a genius when it comes to maths nor I'm I a scientist, but I'm good with words.
What do you try to communicate with your poetry?
Its mostly being creative, sometimes I could be angry at myself with life I use all that pain and sadness and write a heart breaking poem or rant, but with my poems I use it to connect with people with everything, something they can relate to. the most is when I'm thinking out of the box from the note book to girl interrupted. what do you do when you go into a dry spell of some sort or how do you write another piece when you have been away from it for some time? Erm I have no problem there.
Do you sit and think through every word of every stanza or do you just write freely and allow the words to flow?
I free style...Holla and I also sing it out. :D
Who are some of your favorite poets?
Mine is mostly Nas the rapper/poet.
Gaariye i liked him because he was thinking out of the box, may Allaah have mercy on his soul.
Tupac rapper/poet -RIP
and my Grand father he was a poet to, I like to say I got the creative side from him, may Allaah have mercy on his soul.
who are your favorite Somalia's nations poets?
I don't have a fav poet on the somalia's nations poets page..cos well I see you all as competition duh *coughs coughs* like I wrote a poem about this issue long ago I let my emotions out, I made it very clear (poem called "Dear Ismail, Pen 'n'paper and Hamza".) ( I joke I Joke)
What advice do you have for aspiring poets? Any word of advice for closet poets?
follow your passion, if its little or big, because that would be your drive to live in this world, that joy that would make you smile.
Anything else you would like to share?
I'll like to say Thank you for Halima to have the courage to make this group page and all the other pages, and to to bring us all together and to share our thoughts our sorrow's all on the Somalia Nation Poets Group Page.
the way our older generation would gather around to share their poetry, we found another way to speak up since we've been separated since the war, its nice to see our culture is still rooted within us no matter where we are, if our land has been turned to dust our poetry speaks out as an supplication we didn't notice that truly lights up.

Desert Soul
Empty like clear glass,
trying to remember you
I wish I had the courage to hold on,
wishing those feelings would last,
but I feel sad that your end
your feelings were the past,
so what I'm I gripping on to,
a walking desert soul
with bitter tears to feed too.
I felt that you loved me,
but i know you buried that
deep in a hole within you,
denying your true feelings
and how i mean to you,
soon would my love die too?
I pray that it does,
I hope your wounds get healed,
and that the love we had is concealed,
we peeled at each others desert soul,
and let a flower group and grow
and our soul grew,
i want to truly feel the saying
"Let Go,Let God"
over the horizon blue sky,
tears of a grey cloud,
the Lord works in miraculous ways,
I know you whispered you loved me.
and I know it hurts you cant have me
and I cant have you
so my tears go in the palm of my hands
that's where my love would go
crying please Lord heal this broken heart.
help me to forget, help me to let go.

{Group poem 26: New Beginnings} Idil
I've let the past steal
the present away from me
I had to let go
to forgive so I could breath
to cry out so the pain would relief
and to think blood was thicker then water
was I truly revealed to see that nothing was real
and everything that I knew was true and beautiful
was under the desert sands of Arabia
buried away
and those tears forever stayed
with every prayer I hope time would heal
mend what ever was broken
to erase the torture of the unseen
and to know as much as I am really alone
to say it out loud Oh how the truth just kills
I'll take this journey with Al muqeet
Because Allaah is my family.

October Tears
October Tears
would I be lying if I said,
it made me stronger
when I was confronted with my fears
should of known October was to come
October Tears
the days I lost my soul
but that was last year
so its again funny
how history repeats its self
or I'm I sure its been
following me through here
hurting me day by day
Ibliss I know you love these tears
I keep crying to my self
oh how you whisper to my ears
I don't want to lose myself
hate how it feels
I cry to my Lord
Mix state of mind
there's no life to my eyes
hate this life
sharp shinny things
used to appeal
before they used to heal
but I know it was stupid
October Tears
surly October thirteen
should be different
feeling a little different
ready to get rid of this chronic pain
I know its choking me once again
when I let the tears flow
I just wish I could talk to someone
but it hurts so much
that you seem to come to
me as your dearly companion
and I just want you
to leave me alone
making supplication
was the way to go
now you don't exist
once again like a ghost
October Tears
I was confronted with so many fears
I think I'm stronger.

Gaariye (So October begins)
Your soul has departed from this world
but your words will be
uttered of the ones who weep
and your Poems will live
deep within your words
You'll truly be missed
most inspiring poet I ever read
the genius who made words come to life
death seems like an unwanted surprise
and life is a trail full of cries
reading your poems
entwined my mind
So October begins
rain falls from the skies of the undying blue
Oh how we all have secrets King gooja
poetry is the whispers
of our crying souls
shhhh... as the rain falls
So October begins
we sing your poetry
whisper under our breath
and when I'm done writing
I sigh and turn
and see King Gooja's hidden secret
just like the
kudu's horns reappear

Incapable of Loving
Everyone wants to be loved
but I'm incapable of loving
although that's what it may seem
I wish he loved me
The love you gave is all dead
I'm once again incapable of loving
wish I knew it was unreal
Shouldn't have loved you
because you never loved me at all,
shouldn't wasted all my love
you wasn't worth loving.
wasn't worth knowing
wasn't worth nothing
The love you gave is all dead
I'm I once again incapable of loving
baby I swear I thought you was the one
shouldn't have loved you at all
I just want to be in love with someone else
who wants me
The Love you gave is all dead
I'm I once again incapable of loving
do you not think I hurt at all
I just want to be in love
with someone else
it hurts to be myself
The Love you gave is all dead
I wonder if I am incapable of loving
I wish you loved me

Day 8 (Ramadan Poems): Idil Ahmed Mahamed
The Ramadan that I remember.
The Ramadan that I remember
the pain is coming back to me
the days I counted and I never thought
the coming Eid that you'd be gone,
felt so hurt and so alone,
everything of you was all gone just gone
and silence is what I remembered and many tears
they screamed at me "he is dead"
put my spirit down
and I died too
and your last words keep replaying in my mind
and the kindness you gave is all gone just gone
and the poor cried out your name
what a great man you was
I cry every other night that you died
and he lived
The Ramadan that I remember
where I had no importance ,
wheres I felt I had no family
No One
and you was my family
when you died they died too
no sunshine no happiness anymore
The Ramadan that I remember
when you died alone.

Abti Nasir
whats keeping me going in this world
is that death will come
imagining heaven and fearing hell
one day hoping I'll reunite with you
every jummah pray i make my dua's
for you and the ones we've lost
sending you my love
Abti Nasir you truly deserve Jannah
when i look at a picture of you and your children,
i still break down and cry
it hurt when i heard you died
at that time i couldn't cry
held a firm grip into asking why
i felt like it was a lie
and the tears started to entwine
wish it was me instead
never knew missing anyone can torture ones soul
I've lost my mind in this dragging hole
I've missed the souls you raised
it hurts I cant be apart of their lives
and there will always be a hole
knowing I haven't got nothing of you
i just wonder if they ever remember us altogether
when we were all happy
childhood days were full of bliss
before it was disturbed with a haunting twist
heart breaking to even think
all this sadness I'm about to be sick.
even though they may hate me
I'll love them anyway
wouldn't believe whats been happening ever since
your last breath
how Allah is putting us through the biggest test
there are so many things that people should confess
let you be and put you at rest
11 years on awards and we are still in the worst mess
but inshaaAllah with Allah's help it would be resolved
because theres nothing I can do or anyone else
Abti Nasir we just miss you
and for all the things you done we truly appreciate it
and I want to help you too
the way you gave zakat
I'll hand it over in behalf of your name
the way you and my hoyo would walk around the kaaba together
I'll walk around the kaaba in behalf of your name
servant of Allah, the helper and protector
and what you truly did you helped us
and I never felt more safe
one day all this sadness will diminish
all this pain would just finish
one day inshaaAllah I'll be there with you
with your children and grandchildren
with your hoyo and abo
with your wife
and your siblings
and there Allah promises us happiness
for entity
O how Allah is so merciful
knowing there would be one day a
stop to this pain and these falling tears.

Drain
never felt so spiritless,
stuck in a bubble of my own conscious,
knowing my mind is here to deceive,
need to cut it to be free
drowning, need to breath,
drowning in to deep
dripping from my finger tips,
I should of have let you save me,
I know I wouldn't have been like this,
dripping onto the carpet,
looking at my reflection in the mirror
I know I've let myself go to far,
screaming to my self
what I'm doing can put me straight to hell.
I hear ringing in my ears
nothing is clear
but I know what I fear
trapped within this torment,
my heart skips knowing I'm haunted
I can't even save myself,
weak beneath my breathe,
should I dial nine,nine,nine
or let my self die?
Cold sweat and the nerves start to hit,
I should have let you save me,
just save me, like you promised before,
and heal my wounds,
as I know you would,
red all over my wrist,
I feel so misplaced and so used.
I honestly don't know what to do,
wish I could be with you,
be with anyone really,
to feel wanted to feel like I'm worth something,
see I cant cry
but my whole life has been a lie,
never felt so spiritless,
stuck in a bubble of my own conscious.

Group Poem 23 (Heartbreak Poems): Full Moon Falling
If we could be
if only you wanted me
so simple minded
hard headed
how could I think we could fit
breaking up inside
with all the mind games
my mind is about to split
breaking inside as my heart wonders off
through your false promises
and the lies I once adored
wasting my love for nothing
my soul burned up to ashes
say you love me the words
I've been chasing
A memory I thought would once happen
but you've been dragging me for to long
so I know now
I'm no longer yours now
cant believe I could even imagine
us being together
no one knows your a heart breaker
cutting the veins of all hearts
so sad that I thought
you was that one prince
the man who manged
to own my tears
thank you for that satisfying
sheer deception
nothing between me and you
was ever real
so if I'm sinking
like the full moon falling
so take it as a farewell from here
My Dear
Its Over

Group Poem 1: Somalia TNP
Somalia - TNP unites us in scripture
We all can paint a perfect picture
Like a mirror it helps us reflect
Bringing forth our greater intellect
Somalia TNP is vital , just like an umbilical cord
Convincing us that the pen is mightier then the sword
Ismail Mohamed
With the pen, I write with fire and flames
Words like glowing passion
Heat flowing through the paper
Aphrodisiac in my pen
I embrace you in lust
The feeling is indescribable
You feel the desire and yearn for it
Like a drug I set up word that is poisoning you
Words to the effect of causing an end.
Zana Haji Hashi
And, to what seems like the end, it all started when the rules were bending.
And down deep the burial ground of the people aren’t buried well.
Our heroes took their lives to mend things for our wealth.
Playing tricks were the reasoning for such pain.
And that gun shots sadly are used for being heard.
And singing birds aren’t recognized at all and seeing green and true beauty of nature, seems like our mind and imagination is playing games.
But remember it won’t and that it can’t be the end now.
Keeping in faith seems too hard to keep a grip holding tight and holding tears, seems so hard to not break at all.
Idil Ahmed Mahamed
But, Somalia is the unbreakable nation for it is all about:
Our land, our pride, our home,
Our poems, our literature, our arts,
Our beauty, our culture, our nomadic traditions,
Our families, our values, our religion.
We are the land of poets,
The land that still persists,
The land that still prevails,
And the land that still yearns for peace,
For peace will surely knock at our doorsteps, saying “Honey, I am home”
We are the poets, of today and tomorrow.
Somalia- The Nation of poets
aims to protect this tradition,
celebrate it with the world,
and inspire the youth to remember,
remember that our adults communicated
through poetic verses with golden glints.
And we aim to celebrate and embrace that!

Apologies from a poet
I don’t know where to start
But my anger sure went too far
Sorry to the people of TNP
But I had to say what,
I had to say, to get off my chest
Must have looked like a bloody mess
But here I am saying sorry
True apologies from a poet
Even if you didn’t notice me
But that was my argument poetry
I’m a poet damn it, hello I’m here
I should get a lot of credit you know
After poem after poem and nothing
Okay I’m sorry that was
a cheap way of saying, how I feel
To cocky and rude but hey didn’t mean it
But truly in my sad little heart
I am apologising and no it isn’t
Any way of using it sarcastically
So I should just list it here and come forth
Realise my jealous behaviour
And apologise to those who I may have attacked
Sorry to Ismail it was just
mood swings of mines
It’s a woman thang
Sorry Hamza for objectifying you
But it’s your fault do you know
Your fitnah to the ladies
And sorry Pen ‘N’ Paper
That response to me was just beautiful
And I’ll always keep it with me
You swept me off my feet
You just smooth man
And I’ll like to say haha
To the women of this page and your fan base
PEN ‘N’PAPER WORTE A POEM ABOUT ME
To you three who are so talented
And the rest of the poets in this joint
Yes I said joint I can be hip to.
Somali-The nation of Poets
In our selves there’s a poet in all of us
With different flows and ways of the words
Stories and fantasies that we share
Which are untold?
So Ramadan is around the corner
so please forgive me, and my childish ways
These are after all apologies from a poet
I’m sorry to you all and Thank you.
Idil Mahamed
