"...You are my companions but they are my beloved..."

I have never met you
but I am your beloved
Your love is within me
It is stamped with faith
It is eternal love
It is love that
Cannot be taught
Nor is it theoretical love
It is Love that
Praises your message
Increases with your mention
I abide by your teaching
And I sacrifice my parents for you
So they plot to separate us
Offend you to manipulate us
They think our love can be broken
I tell them little do they know
No Tsunami can weaken our love
No Hurricane Katrina can blow our love
So hear me when I say
His dignity is my dignity
His honour is my honour
Yes this love is outraged
by the recent events
But in his manners we have great example
For his manners was the Quran
So I never met you
But as I grab hold of the Book
Your Sunnah and manners
I strive to be your beloved

a moment please

step into the moment
where everything stands still
bows to ur elegant presence!
step into the moment
sprinkle the flavor of eternity
and hypnotize me
with a smile ..or maybe a kiss
that heals the soul of a greedy lover
let me slide to the side
and whisper softly into ur ears
three words
i......love.....you
and like a Rumba vibe
i sweep u off ur feet
playing with ur long black hair
as if it is a strings of an ancient guitar
Reminiscing the turbulent moments of love
so step into the moment
allow me
just allow me
to spin u like a princess
spin and spin
spread ur passion
let the moment regain it is motion
or maybe i just take u to ur home
to my chest
so u can dream while
listening to my heart singing
three words
i....love ....you

A letter to my old lover

Dear old lover,
Before I write anything I just want to let you know, I’m surrendering
I’ve put down my arms and shield and took of my mask
This is the real me
As I write you this letter, my heart is pacing and my eyes are watering up
I just hope it does me justice
If you allow me, I have a couple questions to ask you
Bear with me and please don’t get angry
First and foremost, do you still love me?
Or did the wells of your love dry up after our atrocious war?
Do you ever miss me? Do you ever think about me?
Better yet, do you whisper my name in the darkness of the night in hopes in echoes back yours?
Because I swear I do.
Do you ever dial my number in hopes I pick up or it goes straight to voicemail?
Just to hear my voice?
Because I’m guilty of doing so
Did you ever wonder why we fought and argued so much?
Did it ever hurt when I use to say I hate you and I could do better?
Did you ever forgive me for leaving you without a proper goodbye?
Or does rage blind you whenever you hear my name and bring forth the monster in you that I helped paint?
Do you still think about our future together?
Or am I just a figment of your sinister past?
Tuck deep in between your, I don’t give a fuck and I will never speak to piles?
You might be thinking, how dare she ask me questions if she’s the one who left me
And I’m sorry!
I know I’m audacious but please, I need to set my soul and heart at ease
How selfish and self-centered she is you might be saying
And I have no defense to that. I’m that and ten times worse
And I’m sorry!
I’m not asking for a second chance or pity from you
Nor am I trying to play the victim card or get back with you
If anything I’m asking for forgiveness
Think of this as my formal apology for my childish ways
And a thank you letter
For putting up with my bullshit and selfish ways
My rudeness, impoliteness and bitterness.
I just hope you don’t resent me, regret me or hate me
For you were my first love and maybe my last
But by the will of God we didn’t last
And only He knows if our paths will ever cross again
With that said,
I’m sorry
And I still love you
But please don’t say I love you too
Because I don’t deserve it
I just want you to forgive me
And burn this letter
So we can both set our hearts free

Goodbye old lover.

Incapable of Loving

Everyone wants to be loved
but I'm incapable of loving
although that's what it may seem
I wish he loved me

The love you gave is all dead
I'm once again incapable of loving

wish I knew it was unreal
Shouldn't have loved you
because you never loved me at all,
shouldn't wasted all my love
you wasn't worth loving.
wasn't worth knowing
wasn't worth nothing

The love you gave is all dead
I'm I once again incapable of loving

baby I swear I thought you was the one
shouldn't have loved you at all
I just want to be in love with someone else
who wants me

The Love you gave is all dead
I'm I once again incapable of loving

do you not think I hurt at all
I just want to be in love
with someone else
it hurts to be myself

The Love you gave is all dead
I wonder if I am incapable of loving
I wish you loved me

Last Day Lesson From Ahmed Darman (Poem)

When we all got the phone calls
Everyone flew to the hospital
No way
It couldn’t be
That the Ahmed Darman was dying
The man had survived since June 16, 1930

When Somalia was not Somalia
When Somalia became Somalia
When Somalia stop being Somalia
He was alive and he was there
He left and came back to leave again
For 83 years

He didn’t even need a cane to walk
No way was he dying
He always survived and he helped others survive
How many students did he help go to unversities overseas
Education was always the most important thing to the P.h.D holder
He thought every single person should get an education and he would always help

Darman loved school since he remembered when Macalin Jama gave him a chance
When he got his scholarship to the university in Italy
That helped him became an amabassdor to United States, Yemen, Tanzania, Ethiopia, and China in 1960
But he did more than politics
He helped on projects like creating the Somali National Theatre, Sports Stadium, Banadir Hospital, and the roads like from Beledweyne to Berbera
He created jobs with the Warmash Factory

He loved Somalia and always wanted to help
He helped his people even when he could no longer travel back to Somalia
By guiding his neighbors and fellow refugee Somalis
His house was always open
Many refugees slept at his house when they came to America
He said all was welcome
We are Somali
He tells his granddaughters to bring tea for the new guests
Welcome to America he would say

There was never a moment where you would feel unwelcome
You could forget about the war and that you have no money or english
You were not alone
You found the Darman house
Twenty minutes from Washington D.C.
Darman was an amabassador so where else would he live
But next to the capital

Drink more tea
Relax
Share your story
All are welcome by Ambassador Darman
He remembers your father afterall
He was alive for 83 years so he remembers many
You are not a refugee to him
But the cherished son of a respected father
The treasured daughter of a respected mother
He remembers you with his long memories
It was 1946 when your grandfather and him raced together
He remembers that day as if it was yesterday

We all flew to the hospital next to the White House
Awoowe, where is my Awoowe
The man that taught me how to stand tall
Who taught me to always respect myself
Who taught me the importance of education
Who taught me to wear a black suit
Who never taught me my qabil
But taught me I was Somali
He was important to me
But he was important to many
They came from different states, Europe, Canada, all over
His son flew from Mogadishu for 24 hours without sleep
He was important to them too

They called him many names
Husband, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin, friend, teacher, politician,
Businessman, revolutionary, intellectional
Many titles and many names

Each one had a different story
Darman helped me go to school
Darman helped me get immigration papers
Darman helped me when my father died
Darman helped me was what they all said

So even in the moment when the doctors in America wondered
Why the hospital was full of Somali people in tears?
Who was this 83 year old man?

If only they were as lucky to meet a man like Ahmed Darman
Who gave you help and shelter on your worst day
Who calls you every week to ask you how are you?

In the end he still taught us again
To help others and take the time to give a chance
So on your last day everyone will bless you before you leave

What if...

So many battle-scarred souls,
veterans in an urban war zone -
left with distinctive marks,
emphasising a distinctive character.

What have you found,
a slice of life?
I turned around,
looking back twice.
Did you turn me down,
I have seen you frown.

Going by 'what if',
my ink turning stiff
losing its motion.
My situation
is turning different,
to the very end -

What if I let go
of my past, you know?
What if I rose to
the challenge and you?
What if, finally
you would try to be -

Have you tried to see
those things differently?
More than we can feel,
we all try to heal,
"a child left alone"
a place of my own -

Remains hard to find.
Life crunches and grinds
limit and heartless,
some feel to confess,
others still neglect,
a few do regret -

The present lived by,
consumed by, you try
to learn from my past.
Hate is all we cast
in tones of reason,
season by season -

Breathing through the night,
keeping hope in sight,
essentials of life.
Your prayers survive,
past expectations,
those separations -

Concerning your kind,
you are on my mind -
peace is hard to find
leaving like the tide
I keep holding on
- while, you keep it strong.

12 steps to the truth

There he is
the dust crawling under the sleeves
annoying the naive skin!
heavy steps laden with uncertainties
but surprisingly some water of faith left
in the bottle !
Look at him!
drunk from the life twist
so weak ..on his knees
Like Clay she dances around him
throwing those neat punches !
but the pain aint getting him sober
the eyes and lips are captured by
that garnished  cocktail !
at that moment you wish
if it was just a bad dream
but hey it is life , 12 steps all the way !
no short cuts , no turning back , no sway
inch by inch closer to that hole everyday
so listen to the words from the bottle
Yes! sometime the tears will lose their way
to heal the wound !
yes sometimes no soft hands to put your cheeks on!
but there is your hand so take the mask off !
see the truth with us  and put the shield on
coz you are born
a hero
a gladiator
a human
in the bitter sweet journey!
and now
close ur eyes
take the final step
wash up ur sins and pray !

Traveler to Jannah

in pitch darkness
I light up  a candle and continued walking
Knowing that this life is a passage
And that reality is born
at the end of the road !
And as the journey continues
We keep swinging between
Fear and hope!
Fear that our desires my kidnap us
Fear that our sins my drown us
Fear that continues to circle around me
And I feel my knees are failing me
That the dust on my shoulders
Is too heavy to be carried anymore
Do u see those flames laughing
on the side of the road
waiting for my last breath?!

But as it gets more and more tight
More and more dark !
The fear is silenced!
As Repentance comes from far away
Answering the prayers of my tears
Holding my hand
Reciting the words of hope
That He is the most merciful
He is the most generous
You just knock the door
And He will answer With forgiveness

so I kept walking and knocking
Swinging and Wishing
that we all meet in that place
Where nothing have an end
Where no fear , misery or tiredness
In Jannah
In jannah
In jannah
Amiin

H.E.C.T.I.C

"life is hectic"
call it frantic
I'm mesmerised
you tell me lies
mind is static
they neglect it
hopeless, those fears
endless, those cheers
tears keep running
she keeps stunning
semiconscious
you reflect this
different, dimmed lights
old days, old nights
you remember
thin and slender
you told me so
told me to grow
"surpass your past
so you can last"
"life is lifeless
I'm in a mess"
well patronised
didn't agonise
over her touch
"she's such and such"
who you asked for
and so much more
It's still the same
calling my name
can't hear your voice
leave me your choice
bounce back to start
you hit me hard
holding on to
mine, mostly yours
any meaning
you keep screaming
call it frantic
"life is hectic"

Incomparable

Chaotic family structures
leave us searching
for images
of our own
in strangers
who might
fill that void
of an absent
father
mother
brothers
sisters
Why or how they left
Is irrelavant
But their absences
Is forever incomparable.

Changed Ummah

Are we all thoughtless?  Why is it that we’re all changed because of society?
Why is that nowadays we look down on others? Don’t we all came from the same father!
Why is that we’re willing to exchange 60 or 70 years for Eternity? Don’t we have morals anymore!
Why do we call jahiliya Instead of united ummah? Have we lost faith in ourselves!
Why is that our people suffer because of hunger? Yet our children throw plates at each other!

Did Islam really changed us, Or did we changed Islam?

Have we lost ourselves? Why is it that life in this Dunya feels important to some of us then Akhirah?
Am no different from you
But I settle for the greater reward any day
Why is that even in Ramadan when Satan is chained some of us dare to do bad deeds?
Is our Imaan that low?

Let’s recharge our imaan with taqwa
Blessed month of Ramadan is here
Chance we can wipe off all of our sins
Isn’t that worth striving for?
Take a sec and look back on last Ramadan
How many left us?

Another day we can walk on earth with humility
Before we are 6ft below it
When was the last time we visited grave?
Isn’t the grave our resting home?
Grave will either be garden of paradise or ditch of hell
Home where all that can benefit you is those good deeds

Let this be our wakeup call before death is
Would you rather regret in the grave or in this world?
At least in this world you could do something about it
Life in this world is never to please us
Rather to test our patience and our sacrifice
Let’s make most of this blessed month Insha Allah
